Bradford College has delivered Ophthalmic Dispensing courses for over 70 years.
Our courses are accredited by the General Optical Council (GOC) and allow exemption from the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) theory examinations. The quality of our learning resources, high standards of teaching and learning and the excellent employment rate for successful students have been commended by the Government’s Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).
Career opportunities include: dispensing opticians in private practice, large optical companies, hospital eye clinics, prescription houses, and frame and lens manufacture. Other roles include practice management, contact lens opticians and optical sales.
You are required to register with the GOC and ABDO whilst on the course.
Ophthalmic Dispensing courses
Upon completion, in addition to dispensing spectacles, you’ll be able to fit and supply low visual sharpness aids and carry out clinical measurements under the supervision of an optometrist. You’ll gain an understanding of the business environment, as well as practice management theory and consumer law.
This challenging and comprehensive course will fully prepare you to take the ABDO (Association of British Dispensing Opticians) Contact Lens Anatomy, Visual Optics Theoretical Examination, and Contact Lens Practice Examination.
This excellent course covers all parts of the ABDO syllabus, teaches you the core competencies of the General Optical Council and will fully prepare you to successfully take the ABDO professional qualifying examinations to become a registered Dispensing Optician.
