First we talk to you in confidence...
... to find out what you want and need. We won’t take any action without your permission.
We can offer the following kinds of support:
Assessing your needs: we help you identify what kind of support is needed, and advise you what is on offer.
Learning support: you may be able to benefit from one to one sessions with a specialist tutor, or support from a Learning Assistant in or out of the classroom.
Financial support: if you are an HE student you may be entitled to the Disabled Students’ Allowance. We will help you to find out, and we can help you make a claim.
Assistive technology: there may be specialist equipment that will make it easier for you to study and be independant at College. We have equipment on loan, free of charge, long-term and short-term.
Accessibility: our buildings are designed to be accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities. We aim to ensure that our website, learning and information materials and other online environments are accessible as well. You can contact us if you need help with or advice about any access issues.
Exams: some people need additional time, rest breaks, or a separate space in which to take exams. If this applies to you, we will contact the exam boards and make the necessary arrangements.
Work placement and careers: we work closely with our colleagues who help students get work experience and prepare for a career after college.
A quiet space and specialist study area: we are here to help you be fully part of College life, but we know that some students value having a quiet place where they can work and relax. We have a centre where you can study or have quiet time, or talk to one of our Team. There are special computers and assistive technology. Visit the 'Disability Services and Learning Support' study area to find out more.
