New Music course aims to prepare students for work in the industry

A new music course has been launched that will provide students with a professional foundation for a range of artistic and technical careers in the music industry. The Music for the Creative Industries FDA will develop student’s musical competencies and technological expertise, equipping them with the skills to create, perform and produce music to a professional standard.

Music Student

Music tutor John Dey had this to say on the new course, “This really exciting new course has been designed to represent recent changes in the music industry, so that graduates are ready to move into employment in the music industry, or onto further study at Level 6. We put a huge emphasis on collaborative work, with students encouraged to work together on projects throughout the course. We have some great resources in the Music area, with students having access to brand new iMacs, professional recording equipment and live sound equipment. Our tutors are experienced professionals, with a wide range of experience in both performance and production. Where possible, we support the teaching and learning with enrichment opportunities, such as trips, lunchtime gigs and guest lectures, giving students a well-rounded experience that they will never forget!”

The course is ran over two years of full-time study, with the second year requiring students to choose a specialism in either a performance or technology/production route and to work on this specifically, in collaboration with other students, to result in high quality productions and performances.

The music department, part of Bradford School of Art, has links with many venues and organisations around the city which results in Bradford College staging gigs and events in professional environments to enrich students’ experience. These include The Underground, Kala Sangam, Delius Arts Centre, Black Dyke Mills and events like Bradford Festival.
