BA Fashion graduate, Kiran Zaahira, has had her work published in Oh Comely's 50th Birthday issue. Her piece entitled 'A Cup A Tea' was crafted in her spare time as she relaxed in Bradford's cafés and coffee shops.
Oh Comely is a women's magazine covering film, fashion, music, art and culture. Kiran's style was previously on display at the Bradford College Graduate Fashion show in June, this work shares similarities to 'A cup of tea' with its inspirations coming from the surrealist art movement. Kiran sent her work to Oh Comely as part of the 'Fashion Styling and Promotion' module of her course and said "I feel honoured to have my work published in Oh Comely magazine, as it is a famous magazine. I was actually quite shocked and happy when I found out my work has been published".
Explaining her work, Kiran states:
My collection ‘A Cup A Tea' is about how I use sketching and sewing as a way of escape from reality. Sketching in a café gave me an idea of combining drawing and fashion in my final graduate collection".
After having her work featured in such a prestigious publication, Kiran believes she has now given her work some fantastic exposure.
I feel like this will have quite a strong impact on my CV/portfolio as it's not every day you get your work published and I feel like it has been a great achievement in my life.
With her portfolio now featuring this published work, Kiran's next step is to find employment in the Fashion industry whilst continuing her studies. "The next step for my career for now would be looking for fashion related jobs to get more experience in this field, and work towards an MA in Fashion/Textiles". Kiran also mentioned how studying at Bradford College positively impacted her studies: "It has everything you need as a student with great facilities, most important is the support you get from the tutors".
