Art tutors run masterclasses in Saltaire

Hannah Lamb of Bradford School of Art at Bradford College leads a workshop

Tutors from Bradford School of Art will be passing on their expertise during this weekend’s Saltaire Arts Trail.

Staff from the specialist art college, which is a part of Bradford College, will be running workshops at the annual arts celebration with short bookable sessions in special effects make-up, printmaking and lino printing all on offer in Saltaire Methodist Church.

On Saturday, May 27, Leanne Marsh will run a two-hour Special Effects and Make-up Artistry workshop from 2pm which will introduce the techniques of life body casting and special effects make-up. Participants will create a mould of a finger and create bruises, cuts and burns.

On Sunday, May 28, Brian Hindmarch will run the Monoprint and Monotype Printmaking workshop. In the 90-minute masterclass, which can be booked for a 12.30pm or 2.30pm start, participants will explore printmaking.

Creative Impression - Stamp Making and Lino Printing is the title of Monday’s workshop which will be run by Vivienne Bradley.

In the three-hour session from 1pm, participants will learn how to carve their own handcrafted rubber stamp. Using traditional lino cutting methods they will transform a motif onto soft-cut lino and produce a series of prints. This technique is perfect for hand-made cards, wrapping paper or gift tags.

Throughout the weekend, Bradford School of Art tutor Hannah Lamb and Claire Wellesley-Smith will be producing the second part of their special commission, Lasting Impressions.

Last year the pair presented a performative and participatory artwork that aimed to create an archive of the cloth we carry with us all the time; the clothing we wear day-to-day.

They collected impressions of over 300 participants clothing on porcelain tiles and written responses to these items.

This year the artistic duo will be archiving the responses collected and creating new work using fibre and fabric.

The work will be in the Spinning Room on the top floor of Salts Mill each day through Sat 27 - Mon 29 May between 11am and 12 noon, then 1pm to 2pm and 3pm to 4pm and visitors are welcome to participate.

Places on the workshops cost £6 per person and can be booked HERE.
