African children's choir to perform

The Singing Children of Africa Choir
Tuesday, October 10, 2017

An African children’s choir will sing to staff and students at Bradford College.

The Singing Children of Africa, a choir of Kenyan school children, perform in the college on Thursday as part of a tour of the UK.

The choir is made up of 24 pupils aged nine to 14 who attend the Joluarabi School in the north of Kenya which was set up by the charity Educate the Kids. The charity supports children who otherwise would have no hope of attending school and gaining an education.

Bradford College has long supported the charity and English teacher Esther Wilkey spent a year working at the African school and returned to volunteer there in the Easter holidays earlier this year.

The group will perform a range of traditional African and contemporary songs and dances during the concert, at 12.30pm.

The youngsters are no strangers to Bradford College having thrilled an audience at the college last year.

The college performance is part of a national tour that will raise money to support the school, which some of the children walk up to eight miles a day to attend and where lessons start at 6.30am and go on until 6pm.
