A Bradford College staff member is in the running to be named Further Education Leader of the Year.
Hayley Lomas has been shortlisted for the title in the prestigious Times Educational Supplement (TES) FE Awards – the Oscars of further education.
Lomas, who is Head of Service Industries, Hospitality, Catering, Travel and Tourism, is on a shortlist of eight in the leadership category.
The winners in all 14 categories will be announced in a ceremony at the Grosvenor House hotel in London’s Park Lane on 24 February.
Lomas is no stranger to the awards ceremony, having been part of the Bradford College team that attended the 2015 event to collect the trophy for Vocational Team of the Year.
Since that win, Lomas, who is coming up to 10 years’ service at Bradford College, has managed a merger of three large teams into one department, overseen a 21 per cent rise in the success rate in hair and beauty and the college has earned a gold standard for its catering and been named a centre of excellence in pastry and confectionary.
She is also an Ofsted inspector, magistrate, governor at Oasis Academy Lister Park School in Bradford and a governor at Bradford NHS Trust.
Apprenticeship and Skills Minister Robert Halton, who will be attending the awards ceremony said: “Further education is one of the most important tools we have to give millions of people the education, skills and jobs for the future.
“That is why it is important to celebrate our FE sector and the excellent work that is going on in colleges across England delivering quality training.
“Congratulations to everyone up for an award at the TES FE Awards 2017.
“You are champions of further education and play a vital role in ensuring that people of all backgrounds get on the ladder of opportunity to fulfil their potential.”
Now in their sixth year, the TES FE Awards celebrate the best institutions and individuals in further education.
Bradford College is one of the largest further education colleges in the country offering a vast array of career-focussed courses.
