  Overview

The Applied General Diploma Art and Design Graphics Pathway at Bradford School of Art provides opportunities for students who wish to explore, develop and test their creativity within a structure that provides a sound base of skills and knowledge in Graphic Design.
Based in the School of Art at the Lister Building, the course will enable students to develop their creative and technical skills, including the use of specialist, industry standard equipment.

Students will be given a range of projects which challenge them to explore different areas of graphic communication practice including: typography, illustration, design for print (e.g. page layout and poster design), design for screen (e.g. web and interface design) and packaging. A Final Major Project at the end of each year encourages further specialisation allowing for more in-depth knowledge and sophisticated understanding of a specific area. Students are encouraged to exhibit and promote their work in live briefs and exhibitions during the year. Emphasis is given to raising awareness of career demands and the many employment opportunities in the creative sector.

In the first-year students will complete a number of projects and receive verbal and written feedback on these. This will help prepare for the Final Major Project, which is externally assessed by University of the Arts London awarding body. In the second year of the course, the Extended Diploma, the structure is similar although in this case FMP is assessed by tutors and externally moderated by UAL.
The course will enable students to develop their creative and technical skills, including the use of specialist, industry standard equipment. Students will be given a range of projects which challenge them to explore different areas of graphic communication practice.

Entry to this course requires a minimum of 4 GCSEs including GCSE English and Maths at a grade 4 or above. We welcome discussion with any applicant during the application process. For all course applications you will need to show examples of your own creative work and be able to discuss this work.

Assessment for this course includes coursework and a project based assessment.

You will gain experience of Live Briefs working with local employers.
Successful completion of this course can lead to progression to further study, apprenticeships or employment. You may choose to progress into Higher Education Courses in Graphic Design, Media and Games Development. Career progression includes:
