Our Travel, Aviation, Hospitality and Events courses are ideal for those who are interested in pursuing a career in the Travel & Tourism industry. You may aspire to work in the Tourism industry in areas such as Holiday Centres, Tour Operator Companies, Travel Agencies, Cruise Line Companies or Conference Events Organisations.

You will study and learn about all aspects of Travel, Hospitality and Events such as Customer Service, Itinerary Planning, and UK Travel and Tourism. We will help you to build up the key knowledge and skills essential for work in the Travel and Events Industry, such as:

  • Customer Service Skills
  • Employability Skills
  • English and Maths Skills
  • Geographical Knowledge of the UK and beyond
  • Group Work Skills
  • Information Gathering Skills
  • Public Speaking Skills

Entry requirements for the courses depend upon the level you begin with. The minimum we require is GCSE English and Maths at a grade D/E or 3/2. You may also need an Entry Level 3 qualification, if you choose to begin with our Level 1/Entry Level course.

English and/or Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at Grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

The work you do on this course will be internally assessed but there will be a small number of online tests. Ongoing assessment takes place throughout the course to enable you to develop a portfolio of evidence.

Typical assessments will be in the form of:

  • Group & Individual work
  • Online tests (three units)
  • Practical tasks and role play activities
  • Presentations
  • Professional discussion
  • Written work

Our courses offer work experience in the relevant field for your career aspirations.

Successful completion of our Travel, Aviation, Hospitality and Events courses offer progression to further study as well as employment. Depending upon the industry that you would like to specialise in, careers include:

  Fees

Level 1 & 2 courses are government funded. Any students aged 16-23 completing their first level 3 qualification will have their course fees funded by the government. Anyone aged 19-23 that is completing a second level 3 qualification will need to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to pay for their fees. Support will be given on the application for this during enrolment. Anyone taking out one of these loans will not have to pay for this until they are earning a minimum of £25,000 a year.

Travel and Tourism is now one of the largest sectors in the world in terms of generating jobs and income.

This one year course has been designed to meet the needs of those who want to work in the travel and tourism industry, for example: holiday centres, tour operator companies, travel agencies, cruise line companies or conference events organisations. The course will allow you to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the travel and tourism sector.

Many of the course units will be delivered together with all students; however you will have the flexibility to choose your own study route for part of the course to help your progression in either the retail or business travel sector.

The course is 80% classroom-based study and 20% practical activities. Our experienced staff will deliver a variety of lectures, seminars, workshops and presentations and you will also carry out independent student research. You will develop skills using the latest travel industry directories and manuals.

You will develop key skills in:

  • Customer Service Skills

  • English and Maths Skills
  • Geographical Knowledge of the UK and beyond

  • Information Gathering Skills
  • Public Speaking Skills

Units include:

  • Interpersonal Skills for the Travel Workplace
  • Principles of Customer Service in Hospitality, Leisure and Travel & Tourism
  • Worldwide Travel and Tourism Destinations
  • Customer Service & Selling Skills for Travel & Tourism
  • Retail Travel Services
  • Visitor Attractions
  • Resort Representatives
  • Travel Planning

You’ll also have English and Maths in your timetable to help you improve your skills in those areas. This will assist you in areas such as assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your finances and the interpretation of data. These skills will also help you in the future as most employers look for evidence of ability in these areas. 100% attendance in these lessons is therefore mandatory.

Entry to this course requires GCSE English and Maths at a grade D or 3. You will also need a Level 1 qualification in related subject. English and/or Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at Grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

Please note that this course includes compulsory day-trips (both locally and regionally) that you will have to pay for. The cost of these visits over the course of the year will be about £80. Destinations include the local area, Blackpool, Leeds and York.

You will also have to purchase a study pack (including a lever arch file, dividers, plastic wallets, general stationery and a Flash Drive) and these must be brought with you for each session. This will cost approximately £10.

Please note that you are required to wear a uniform whilst studying on this course, comprising of plain black trousers/skirt (no leggings) and smart shoes (no trainers) which you can source yourself. You will have to purchase from us a uniform pack that includes a Bradford College branded formal shirt and tie/scarf, polo shirt and fleece jacket and a stationery pack. These items must be bought before the course starts and worn/brought from the first day of induction. The approximate cost for these items is £30-£40.

Achievement of a Merit in this Level 3 City & Guilds course makes you eligible to apply for one of our Higher Education courses.

You’ll also have English and Maths in your timetable to help you improve your skills in those areas. This will assist you in areas such as assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your finances and the interpretation of data. These skills will also help you in the future as most employers look for evidence of ability in these areas. 100% attendance in these lessons is therefore mandatory.

Entry to this course requires GCSE English and Maths at a minimum grade or C or 4. You must have a Level 2 Travel related course. You must be keen and interested in the travel industry.

English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

The work you do on this course will be internally assessed but there will be a small number of online tests. Ongoing assessment takes place throughout the course to enable you to develop a portfolio of evidence.

You are strongly advised to aim to secure part-time employment in a customer service setting to complement your studies, but please be mindful that your studies should be given precedence over any paid employment. If you struggle to find paid employment a good way to develop your employability skills and to increase your chances of success at interview is through voluntary work.
