  Overview

This introductory qualification is designed for learners who may be ready to progress quickly to further study, the Award offers a basic introduction to the principles of art and provides learners with the opportunity to develop generic, transferable and sector-specific skills related to the creative industries in order for them to progress to further learning.

We also offer an optional two night residential in the Lake District where you can participate in the outdoor pursuits, such as hill walking, open canoeing and ghyll scrambling or the arts, such as botanical drawing, landscape photography and mindfulness in nature.

The course is based on a Programme of Study, which consists of: the vocational qualification itself; a City & Guilds Employability and Personal Development Award, maths and English, a tutorial programme and work experience where appropriate.  Learners will study both core Employability units and sector specific units over the duration of the course.

Our experienced staff will deliver a variety of practical workshops and presentations alongside independent student research.  Visits and guest speakers are also used to help enrich your learning experience.

You will plan your own projects around six key topics:

  • Formal elements of art
  • Design principles
  • 2D project
  • Introduction to print
  • Working in 3D
  • Design crafts

  • planning for your progression
  • Rights and Responsibilities

There are no entry requirements for this level apart from an interest in the specified subject and the ability to commit to positive behaviours and attendance.

 

You will be assessed through a range of methods that include coursework, assignments and presentations.

There will be opportunities for experience of work – up to 30 hours experience of work in a variety of locations across Bradford. Our students work in partnership with the National Citizens Service (NCS) programme which helps to develop key employment skills and behaviours needed for progression to work.

Students who have completed this course before have progressed onto a higher-level Further Education courses in art or other subjects, traineeships, and full time employment.

Partnering with Everything is Possible, students can take part in international trips to Sicily, Sweden and Aruba.
