The Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Further Education) is a recognised, advanced teaching qualification. It delivers an ambitious, contemporary curriculum for trainee teachers in and around the Bradford area. 

The programme is designed to equip you with the essential knowledge, values and skills to teach your subject specialism (vocational/academic) in the dynamic Further Education sector.
Available on a part-time in-service basis, the principal aims of the programme are to help you become a confident and competent teacher in your chosen field of expertise.

This course is for those who wish to teach 14+ in Further Education and training settings. 

You will undertake academic modules in order to gain the knowledge and skills required for a career in teaching in an FE college or training provider. 

You will be able to work alongside a mentor and other colleagues so that you can develop your teaching practice as a reflective practitioner. 

You will be supported by qualified mentors in the workplace with an appropriate curriculum, and a large emphasis is put on work experience.

Applicants should normally have achieved the following prior to registration for the programme:  

Admissions criteria 

  • Honours degree. Candidates will normally be required to have at least a 2:2. 
  • Level 3+ subject relevant qualification. 
  • An eligible GCSE/Level 2 Maths and English qualification or equivalency*. 
  • Relevant experience/prior learning. 
  • Enhanced DBS and health check, successful interview.

You will be assessed on teaching practice via observations conducted by teacher educators in collaboration with specialist mentors.

Constructive developmental feedback will be provided to guide you on areas for improvement in your practice, ensuring that by the end of the programme you are teaching at the expected level according to occupational standards.  

Pathways exist if you are already working as a teacher but don’t have a full teaching qualification (in-service), or if you are working towards securing employment in education (pre service).  

In addition to a general route, the programmes will allow you to become qualified in specialist areas such as ESOL and literacy and numeracy if these routes are chosen.

Once the team has received your application, they will conduct a check of your application to make sure that you have the correct entry requirements for the course you have applied for. 

They will arrange your interview and assessment (if required). If successful at your interview, our curriculum team will make you an offer to study with us.  

This offer will include any pre-enrolment information that you will have to provide in order to be able to enrol onto the course. Failure to provide the information will mean that you will not be able to enrol on the course.
