Performing Arts will introduce you to the collaborative and creative world of performing and production in the creative arts industry. You will develop key skills, knowledge and understanding for progression to further study and training for a range of performing arts subjects, including acting, singing, dancing, musical theatre, and directing.

Entry to the courses requires 4 GCSEs, including GCSE English and Maths. Additional qualifications and experience will depend upon the level that you begin with.

Assessment could include practical performance and production as well as assessment on theory and context.

Work experience and enrichment opportunities are embedded into the timetable to ensure that the course is both diverse and CV enhancing to prepare learners with industry-based experience work in the creative industries. Our links include but are not limited to – The Royal Shakespeare Company, Dance United, Bradford Council.

Successful completion of our Performing Arts courses can lead to further study as well as employment within the creative industries. Depending upon which area you would like to specialise in, you may progress into careers in television, film, theatre as well as media.

If you are 16 to 18 years old you won't have to pay tuition fees.

This qualification provides a full-time introduction to Performing Arts that develops an understanding of Performing Arts as a collaborative activity.

The Level 2 Diploma course will provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to further study and training for a range of performing arts subjects, including acting, singing, dancing, musical theatre, directing and others.

You will have the opportunity to research the history and context of performance and production and its value in informing practice.

Over the course you will be introduced to a range of activities essential to the development and delivery of a performance such as drama, dance and music, as well as the process of rehearsal, production and delivery.

There is an opportunity to take greater responsibility in the management of an assignment of personal interest, via the final major project, and prepare for progression within a chosen discipline. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in the production of a staged piece of performance to an audience.

Unit 5 – Contextual Research for Performance and Production

Unit 9 – Producing and Performing to an Audience – (Level 2)

Or

Unit 10 – Producing and Performing to an Audience – (Level 3)

Entry to this course requires 4 GCSEs at a minimum of grade 3 or D including GCSE English and Maths and a successful audition.

English and/or Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

You should be aged 16-18.

Work experience and enrichment opportunities are embedded into the timetable to ensure that the course is both diverse and CV enhancing to prepare learners with industry-based experience work in the creative industries. Successful completion of the course at Diploma level means that you will be in a position to progress to a Level 3 Diploma course and further study or you may progress directly into employment roles in the creative industries.

The Extended Diploma in Performing Arts builds on and extends the learning undertaken on the Level 3 Diploma course and will further prepare you for progression to Higher Education or related employment adding depth, sophistication and synthesis. There is the opportunity to explore an area of specialist study and context. This leads to a substantial self-directed performing arts project for an appropriate audience. Successful completion of the course leads to Higher Education study such as the Foundation Degree in Performing Arts.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts is a broad diagnostic course giving you an overview of different perspectives and approaches within performing arts or related subjects of study or work. You will develop the ability to research, analyse and evaluate relevant information in order to develop creative solutions to complex problems. You will learn how to use practical methods and skills for creative production for appropriate audiences whilst being able to review their effectiveness for further improvement. You will also begin to take responsibility for the research, planning, time management and actions necessary to access progression opportunities in Higher Education or related work.

Unit 9 – Developing Performance and Production Skills

Unit 10 – Preparing for Progression

Unit 11 – Exploration of Specialist Study and Context

Unit 12 – Extended Project (Level 3)

Entry to this course requires 4 GCSEs at a minimum of grade 4 or C including GCSE English and Maths and successful completion of the Performing Arts Level 3 Diploma or equivalent.

English and/or Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma is a practical, project-based, live-brief course supported by both practical performance and production and ongoing scrapbook assessment. The final major project of the course is externally moderated by University of Arts London.

Work experience and enrichment opportunities are embedded into the timetable to ensure that the course is both diverse and CV enhancing to prepare learners with industry-based experience work in the creative industries. Successful completion of the course at Extended Diploma level means that you will be in a position to progress to a Higher Education level course or you may progress directly into employment roles in the creative industries.
