The qualifications provide a range of core, optional, and specialist units, each with a clear purpose, so there is something to suit your choice of program and future progression plans in addition to the opportunity to develop transferable skills useful for work and for higher education, including research skills, the ability to meet deadlines and communication skills.

The Level 4 Higher National Certificate in International Travel and Tourism Management offers you a broad introduction to the subject area via a mandatory core of learning, while allowing for the acquisition of skills and experience through the selection of optional units across a range of occupational sectors at Level 4. This effectively builds underpinning core skills while preparing the student for subject specialisation at Level 5.

You will gain a wide range of sector knowledge tied to practical skills gained in research, self-study, directed study, and workplace scenarios. At Level 4 you will develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of travel and tourism. Graduates successfully completing the Higher National Certificate will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic concepts and characteristics of travel and tourism.

You will be able to communicate accurately and appropriately and you will have the qualities needed for employment that requires some degree of personal responsibility.

You will have developed a range of transferable skills to ensure effective team working, independent initiatives, organisational competence, and problem-solving strategies. You will be adaptable and flexible in your approach to travel and tourism, show resilience under pressure, and meet challenging targets within a given resource.

You will have access to face-to-face delivery from the subject area specialist as the primary delivery method, including access to an online unit through HN Global online provided by Pearson’s. Specialism at level 4 includes Corporate Travel Management & Tour Operations Management. In addition, you will have access to online resources through the college Virtual Learning Platform and access to electronic resources through Pearson.
Level 4:
Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in International Travel and Tourism Management (120 credits) Each unit is 15 credits.

  • 3 Professional Identity and Practice
  • 4 The Travel and Tourism Business Toolkit
  • 5 Leadership and Management for Service Industries (Pearson-set)

Optional Units:

  • 11 Corporate Travel Management
  • 10 Tour Operations Management
  • 16 Marketing Essentials for Travel and Tourism

Entry to this course requires a Level 3 qualification in English and Maths equivalent to a grade 4 or C.

Please note that there may be additional fees required for trips and visits.

Assessments and projects are chosen to help you progress to the next stage this means some are set by the Centre to meet local needs, while others are set by Pearson (BTEC). You are required to apply your knowledge to a variety of assignments and activities, with a focus on the holistic development of practical, interpersonal, and higher-level thinking skills.
Assessment examples include assignments, projects, presentations and observations.

You will have access to additional enrichment activities and trips, which will involve working in teams on projects. Work placement opportunities will be provided, however, they are optional as they will be charged accordingly. You will have access to industry specialist speakers, delivering high-quality guest lectures.

Work experience opportunities will be provided. You will have access to the professional placements team based at college. You are also encouraged to find your own, especially during reading weeks.

Successful completion of this course can lead to progression to further study or employment. You may choose to progress on to the Level 5 Higher National Diploma on successful completion of the Higher National Certificate. Careers include: Aviation, Events Manager, Sales and Marketing, and other roles within the Travel and Tourism sector.
