You will first and foremost develop your team-working and leadership skills, as both will be vital in your future career. You will also be challenged academically, with all lectures being delivered from ex-service personnel who are also fully qualified, graduate teachers. Both these twin aims, practical skills combined with academic underpinnings will be achieved, by; lectures, research, practical activities, field trips, guest speakers, observed and assignment based assessments. Assessments and projects are chosen to help you progress to the next stage (this means some are set by the centre to meet local needs, while others are set by Pearson). You are required to apply your knowledge to a variety of assignments and activities, with a focus on the holistic development of practical, interpersonal and higher-level thinking skills.

You will follow a general pathway undertaking the core units, any two specialist units, plus two optional units all set by the delivery team.

Blue Light Services:

  • Unit 11: Community Engagement
  • Unit 12: Responding to Emergencies

Optional Units:

  • Unit 14: Crime and Substance Mis-use
  • Unit 15: Modern Warfare and Conflict
  • Unit 22: Fitness Preparation and Testing
  • Unit 27: Psychology of Behaviour
  • Unit 28: Small Scale Research Project in Public Services

Entry to this course requires an English and Maths qualification at Level 4 and a Level 3 in a related subject area. You will also be required to complete a screening interview.

Assessments and projects are chosen to help you progress to the next stage (this means some are set by the Centre to meet local needs, while others are set by Pearson). You are required to apply your knowledge to a variety of assignments and activities, with a focus on the holistic development of practical, interpersonal and higher-level thinking skills.

Successful completion can lead to progression to further study or employment. You may choose to progress onto the Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Public Services. Careers include:
