Overview
The Health and Social Care Technical Certificate/Extended Diploma Level 3 will give you the core knowledge and skills needed to gain employment in the Health and Social Care sector.
It is also designed to enable you to access Higher (degree level) Education. This qualification has been awarded UCAS Tariff points. The amount you receive will depend on the end grade you achieve.
It has been designed to meet the Department for Education’s criteria for the 16-19 Performance Tables, and has been approved as a ‘Tech Level’ qualification.

This qualification covers a wide range of key subject areas in health and social care and includes a wide range of optional units, allowing you to pursue an interest in the specific areas of social care, health studies and health sciences. It allows enough diversity for the optional units to be tailored to suit your preferred progression path.
- You will study the Technical Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care in Year 1.
- You will study the Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care in Year 2.
Entry to this course requires 4 GCSEs including GCSE English and Maths at a grade 4 or C or above. As well as this, you will need 2 other GCSEs (ideally Science and can include Level 2 Health and Social Care Extended Diploma).
You must have a successful interview and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required prior to entry.

You will be required to attend a placement in a real work environment to support your learning. The minimum required number of placement hours is 175 (this includes the 75 hours completed during the Certificate in Year 1).
Successful completion of this course can lead to progression to further study or employment within the Health and Social Care sector. Careers can include Care Worker, Social Worker, Support and Outreach Worker.
If you are 16 to 18 years old you won't have to pay tuition fees. If you're 19 or older you may need to pay a fee.
