5 GCSEs including Science (Combined or Triple), Maths and English Language at grade 5 or above.
- Coursework
Written Exams: Two externally assessed exams by NCFE:
- Paper A: 2 hours 45 minutes, short-answer and extended writing (36% of the qualification)
- Paper B: 2 hours 30 minutes, multiple-choice, short-answer, and extended writing (34% of the qualification)
Employer-Set Project (ESP): Makes up 30% of the qualification and assesses five core skills through:
- A case study assessment
- Two practical activity assessments
- A professional discussion
The skills-based assessments are spaced throughout the two-year qualification period.
You will be required to complete a minimum of 315 hours (45 Days) industry placement.
This placement is to develop your occupational specialism skills as well as those necessary to working in any environment.
Successful completion of this course can lead to employment, apprenticeships or higher education like university.
Careers can include Science Technician, Food Technologist, Laboratory Technician, Metrology Technician, and more.
