Overview
This course is suitable for those wanting to enter the fitness industry, with a full package of courses aimed at developing a broad range of skills and abilities.
This is the first stage on the exciting new technical qualification route, which includes excellent employment opportunities through recognised industry awards, high levels of expertise, industry links and work experience, as well as UCAS points at the end of the Level 3 year.

- Principles of Anatomy and Physiology
- Planning and Instructing Gym-based Exercise
- Principles of Customer Care
- Working in Active Leisure Facilities
- Health and Safety in the Workplace
- Managing Personal and Professional Development
- Studio Cycling
- Circuit Training
- Activity Leadership
- Maths and English (if applicable)
A full timetable of attendance, deadlines, and assessments will be provided on enrolment.

Entry to this course requires 4 GCSEs at a minimum of grade D or 3 in GCSE English and Maths.
You should have a professional, mature attitude with a good level of personal fitness. Previous experience is not essential but would be an advantage.
English and/or Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at Grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.
You will be required to purchase a uniform as part of the course, which is compulsory, and must be worn on all attendance days. You will also need kit for practical activities in the gym/sports hall, as well as paper, pens, folders, and other relevant stationery, which needs to be brought to all lessons.
You will be assessed in a number of ways:
- Coursework
- Multiple Choice Exams
- Portfolios of Evidence
- Practical Demonstration
- Assignments
Successful completion of this course can lead to progression to employment as an instructor/group exercise instructor or onto a Level 3 Diploma in Physical Activity, Fitness, and Exercise Science resulting in exciting industry opportunities and UCAS points.
If you are 16 to 18 years old you won't have to pay tuition fees. If you're 19 or older you may need to pay a fee.
