Overview
If you are thinking of joining the motor industry it is now more important than ever that you have the right qualifications which are based on industry’s requirements. This Award will provide you with a knowledge and understanding of Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Light Vehicles) and build on the skills developed at Level 1. If you cannot yet complete an NVQ, the Award will be especially valuable, as it will give you a worthwhile qualification whether or not you choose to progress to an NVQ. It is possible to join the Level 2 course, without taking Level 1, on a fast track basis.

The course is based on sound technical craft ability, supported by relevant theoretical studies. Our aim is to enable you to gain essential experience and the knowledge, practical skills and technology in vehicle, mechanical and electrical systems. At the end of one year, you should be fully capable of working in the industry or going on to further training, either full or part-time. You will learn about removing and re-fitting vehicle components as well as completing practical tasks in the college’s motor vehicle workshops as well as taking part in classroom-based activities.

Entry to this course requires GCSE English and Mathematics at a minimum of Grade G/1 and successful completion of the Automotive Maintenance and Repair Level 1 Diploma (or equivalent) or have suitable experience of work within the motor industry.
If you have GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade A*-C/9-4 you may qualify for fast track entry directly onto Level 2. English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.
You must be aged 16+.
Please note, you will require specialist for this course such as overalls and safety footwear. Additional expenses may be required to attend motor shows.
You will be assessed through sitting on-line examinations and by proving competence in a number of practical tasks. For each Unit you successfully complete you will receive a Record of Achievement. When you have successfully completed the Units you will receive the full Certificate.
Fees
If you are 16 to 18 years old you won't have to pay tuition fees. If you're 19 or older you may need to pay a fee.
