  Overview

This qualification is the only course which is full and relevant to Level 2 to prepare you to work with children between birth and seven years. This qualification is suitable if you are aged 16+ and have little or no experience in childcare and would like to gain the experience and knowledge needed to work with children.

If you successfully complete this course you can progress onto a Foundation to T-Level course, depending on your GCSE results.

This course will develop the essential knowledge and experience that you need for a rewarding career working with children in their early years. You will build skills in communication and organisation as well as caring and creative skills. Understand how to encourage play and development in children and understanding their needs at such an early age. As well as study, this course provides opportunity to take part in fundraising events and enrichment activities.

Entry to this course requires 3 GCSEs at a grade 3, which must include GCSE English and Maths.

English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 3 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

To gain this qualification, you will need to achieve a pass in all units.

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods including:

  • Direct observation within the workplace
  • A portfolio of evidence
  • Written assignments or a task which we have set
  • Competence in a real work environment

Successful completion of this course can include progression to a level 3 T-Level Education and Early Years / an apprenticeship based on GCSE results. You would also be able to apply for employment as a level 2 Practitioner in early years.
