Join us for a Jacquard Weaving day course where you can transform design ideas into 1m of woven jacquard cloth. The course will cover the basics of jacquard design and theory, to enable you to develop your own jacquard ideas. You will be supported to use specialist software to create a design file for weaving. You will be able to choose from a range of available yarns to specify fabric ideas. At the end of the course, 1m of cloth will be woven for each student and posted. The course is suitable for those with an interest in design and textiles, but no previous jacquard experience is required.

Topics include:

  • CAD design for jacquard
  • Jacquard weaving theory
  • Choosing appropriate materials for weaving

  • Learning jacquard theory

The afternoon session will cover the topics:

  • Applying weave structure
  • Choosing the yarns

All are welcome. Some experience of weaving in some form (handweaving, dobby etc) will be helpful, but is not a requirement.

If you have an interest in Jacquard and Art, you could progress onto further study on our FdA Textiles Practice. You may also decide to progress onto an intermediate Jacquard course. Potential careers include:

  • Woven Textile Designer
  • Artist
