We offers levels starting from Entry Level, Level 1 through to Level 3. Whether you’re starting out in a Hairdressing career or already have some experience and knowledge in the industry, our courses are ideal for you. Our courses are designed around practical skills and tasks that place an emphasis on learners demonstrating what they can do as well as the theory behind the techniques.

  Key Info

You’ll study a range of units including styling and dressing hair. You will be developing industry related skills and building your soft skills that employers require. Many aspects of hairdressing including cutting, colouring, blow-drying , setting and dressing hair. It is taught by highly qualified and enthusiastic staff in realistic working environments. You will build your confidence and raise your commercial skills to a higher standard.

Entry to our courses depend upon the level you begin with, you may a minimum of GCSE English and Maths or related Hairdressing qualifications. You must have a keen interest in Hairdressing and a desire to work in the Hair and Beauty industry.

You will be assessed through a variety of different methods. These could include practical observation and written work, as well as exams.

Some of our courses offer the opportunity for work experience alongside learning. You will be able to gain real-world experience to prepare you for the next step in your career to Hairdressing.

Successful completion of our Hairdressing courses can lead to progression to further study as well as employment in the Hair and Beauty sector.

If you are 16 to 18 years old you won't have to pay tuition fees. If you're 19 or older you may need to pay a fee.

Designed to introduce you to an extensive range of practical skills and knowledge to act as a foundation for you to build your confidence as a junior stylist and progress onto the next level of hairdressing qualification. The course will give you a real taste of the industry, you will train in our commercial salons and have the opportunity to complete work experience. You will be continuously assessed over the period of the course building up a portfolio of evidence as you progress with your skills.

Entry to this course requires a minimum of grade 2 in GCSE English and Maths as well as a keen interest to pursue a career in the hairdressing or Beauty industry.

Please note that it is required that you purchase a kit.

You will be assessed on your practical skills in our salons building up a portfolio of evidence; your theory knowledge will be assed via external exams.

Work experience is a compulsory component of the course.

Successful completion of the course means that you will be able enter the Level 2 hairdressing or Level 2 barbering courses. You may choose to progress to further study or employment in the Beauty and Hairdressing sector.

The Hairdressing Studies – VTCT Level 2 Diploma (QCF) is ideal for anyone wanting a career as a hairdresser employed in a salon or self-employed.

This qualification is based on the hairdressing National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s leading professional body, The Hairdressing Council.

  Key Info

The content of the course comprises all the elements you will require to work as a junior hairdresser/stylist. You will also develop your skills and understanding by studying technical units.

Mandatory units include:

  • Health and Safety
  • Client Consultation
  • Shampoo and Conditioning Hair
  • A Research Unit – Working in the Hair Industry
  • Cut Women’s Hair
  • Colour and Lighten hair
  • The Art of Dressing Hair

You will be required to attend some twilight and evening sessions.

Entry to this course requires 4 GCSEs at a minimum of a grade 3 or D including GCSE English and Maths. As well as this you should hold a Level 1 Hairdressing qualification.

You will be invited for an interview and will be required to take a skills test.

English and/or Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

Please note, you will need to:

  • Purchase and wear a uniform.
  • You may also have to provide some of your own models.
  • There may be additional costs for enrichment activities, such as attending trade fairs, conferences etc.

All the necessary uniform can be purchased from the Hair & Beauty Department during July, August and September.

This qualification can be achieved through you gathering evidence in the College’s hair salon environment.

The VTCT hairdressing L2 diploma in Hairdressing is a substantial qualification for students seeking a career as a hairstylist. You will be expected to purchase a kit and source clients for assessment. Students will need to commit to two 3 hour twilight/evenings per week and be prepared to complete further independent study.

The course covers a broad range of hairdressing skills and knowledge. It is taught by highly qualified and enthusiastic staff in realistic working environments. Many aspects of hairdressing including cutting, colouring, blow-drying , setting and dressing hair.

Entry to this course requires requires 3 GCSEs at a minimum of a grade 4 or C including GCSE English and Maths or be working towards Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths. Experience of working in a hair salon is desirable.

You will be required to attend an interview in which you will be expected to complete a dexterity skills assessment and an individual interview.

English and/or Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

Please note that:

  • Purchase and wear a uniform
  • You may also have to provide some of your own models
  • There may be additional costs for enrichment activities, such as attending trade fairs, conferences etc.

You will be assessed on a continual basis. Practical skills will be assessed on paying clients in a realistic working environment. You will also be assessed through online exams.

Successful completion of this course offers progression to a Level 3 NVQ course, or employment.

Our Hairdressing Level 3 VRQ course is a full-time course that covers all advanced aspects of hairdressing.

  Key Info

This course will help you develop your existing hairdressing abilities, build your confidence and raise your commercial skills to a higher standard.

The course units include:

  • Health and Safety
  • Client Consultation
  • Creative Cuts
  • Style and Dress Hair using a variety of Techniques
  • Creative Colouring
  • Promoting Products
  • Maintaining Personal Health and Wellbeing

There will be one twilight session until 7.30pm.

Entry to this course requires GCSE Maths and English at a grade 3 or D or above.

English and/or Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

Successful completion of this course can lead to progression to further study or employment.
