  Overview

This GCSE is available in pathway 2 only.

Our one-year GCSE in Physics A (Gateway Science) course will introduce you to the key concepts of physics, integrating theory with practical skills.

It will help you develop your knowledge of scientific methodology and theoretical understanding of physics and how this can be applied to the world around you.

You will begin to understand key concepts in Energy, Electricity, Matter and Forces. You will develop essential knowledge in Science including methodology and practical skills that can be applied to the world around you.

  • P3: Electricity and magnetism
  • P4: Magnetism and magnetic fields
  • P5: Waves in matter
  • P6: Radioactivity
  • P7: Energy
  • P8: Global challenges
  • Topic P9 is a practical-based topic which provides learners with the necessary skills to undertake the 15% practical content in the examinations.

Entry to this course requires GCSE Combined Science or individual Science GCSEs at Grade 3, as well as a minimum of grade 6 and grade 3 in GCSE English and Maths.

English and/or Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

Physics A (Gateway Science) consists of two exam papers that are externally assessed. Each Paper is a 1 hour 45 minutes written paper (90 marks).

Successful completion of this course can lead to further study or employment.

  Fees

If you are 16 to 18 years old you won't have to pay tuition fees.
