This GCSE is available in Pathway 2 only.
Our GCSE Chemistry A (Gateway Science) qualification will develop your broad scientific knowledge as well as your understanding of a range of theories and topics within chemistry itself.
You will develop practical and problem-solving skills and an ability to evaluate claims based on science through critical analysis.

You will begin to understand key concepts in Particles, Compounds, Elements and Chemical Reactions. You will develop essential knowledge in Science including methodology and practical skills that can be applied to the world around you.

- C1: Particles
- C2: Elements, compounds and mixtures
- C3: Chemical reactions
- C4: Predicting and identifying reactions and products
- C5: Monitoring and controlling chemical reactions
- C6: Global challenges
- C7 is a practical-based topic which provides learners with the necessary skills to undertake the 15% practical content in the examinations.
You must be aged 19+ to enrol on this course.
Entry to this course requires GCSE Combined Science or individual Science GCSEs at Grade 3, as well as a minimum of grade 6 and grade 3 in GCSE English and Maths.
English and/or Maths will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.
Practical assignment.
OCR GCSE (9-1) in chemistry A (Gateway Science) consists of two exam papers that are externally assessed.
Each paper is a 1 hour 45 minutes written paper (90 marks).
Successful completion of this course can lead to further study or employment.
Fees
If you are 16 to 18 years old you won't have to pay tuition fees. If you're 19 or older you may need to pay a fee.
