Course Overview

This is a Level 1 qualification that enables you to learn and develop practical skills that enable you to complete common tasks in bricklaying and plastering. It is mainly practical based with a small amount of theory work. Attendance is one day per week for 26 weeks.

Course Structure

The course comprises of units selected from:
 
Brick
  • Introduction to health and safety in construction
  • Introduction to the construction industry
  • Constructing half brick walling
  • Constructing block walling
  • Constructing half brick return corners
  • Constructing cavity walls in brickwork and block work
  • Constructing one brick walling
 
Plaster
  • Introduction to health and safety in construction
  • Introduction to the construction industry
  • Preparing background surfaces and applying render coats
  • Preparing background surfaces and applying finishing coats
  • Mixing materials and applying floating coats
  • Producing components from moulds

Entry Requirements

You will be interviewed to assess your suitability for the course and undertake an assessment for Literacy and Numeracy in which you must achieve a minimum of Entry Level 3 in both subjects.

How You Will Be Assessed

The course is assessed by continuous practical assessments with some knowledge questioning.

Things You May Need

You will be required to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and hi-vis vest when working in the College workshops.

If you are aged 19+ and studying a Further Education Course at Bradford College, you may have to pay course fees. Course fees are dependent on the number of hours and which course is being taken. Actual costs can be obtained from our FE Registry team.
