Course Overview

This course will enable students to develop a wide range of skills including the ability to comprehend, synthesise and interpret political information, evaluate and analyse political knowledge, select relevant information and materials to communicate arguments clearly and coherently.

Politics is the way in which a society or a group manages different views, conflict and disagreement. Politics is about compromise; it’s about power; it’s about government. We look at these aspects through studies of the UK and American politics, examining the political structures and issues of debate in each country.

You will develop research and communication skills through a balanced handling of political questions, an interest in citizenship and an up-to-date knowledge of current affairs. You will develop your analytical skills by evaluating political concepts and arguments from competing and sometimes controversial perspectives. These are skills highly valued by Higher Education institutions and employers.
