Course Overview

This course is suitable for those wanting to enter the fitness industry, with a comprehensive package of courses aimed at developing a broad range of skills and abilities. This is the first stage on the exciting new technical qualification route, which includes excellent employment prospects through recognised industry awards, high levels of expertise, industry links and work experience, as well as UCAS points at the end of the Level 3 year.

Progression from this course could be to either employment as an instructor/group exercise instructor or onto a Level 3 Diploma in Physical Activity, Fitness, and Exercise Science resulting in exciting industry opportunities and UCAS points.

Course Structure

The course will be completed on a full-time basis requiring exemplary attendance. There will also be independent study completed through online learning through the College’s virtual learning environment, guided by your tutor. All written work will be submitted to your tutor electronically and they will be available to help you at all points throughout the course.

As part of your learning package, you will also be required to complete mathematics and English lessons, tutorial, work experience, and enrichment activities.

  • Principles of Customer Care
  • Working in Active Leisure Facilities
  • Health and Safety in the Workplace
  • Managing Personal and Professional Development
  • Studio Cycling
  • Circuit Training
  • Activity Leadership
  • Mathematics and English (if applicable)

A full timetable of attendance, deadlines, and assessments will be provided on enrolment.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at a minimum of Grade D/3 (preferably including Mathematics and English)

You should have a professional, mature attitude with a good level of personal fitness. Previous experience is not essential but would be an advantage.

English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at Grade A*-C in these subjects when you commence your course.

Things You May Need

You will be required to purchase a uniform as part of the course, which is mandatory, and must be worn on all attendance days.

You will also need kit for practical activities in the gym/sports hall, as well as paper, pens, folders, and other relevant stationery, which needs to be brought to all lessons.
