To become an MOT Tester, you must meet the entry requirements criteria below.

 

Course Structure

This course is delivered over five days and includes theory, examination and practical assessment within the Centre with the final day being the practical training and assessment.

Once completed, the final assessment will be carried out at your place of work by the Ministry of Transport in your registered Testing Centre.

Entry Requirements

You need to have an accepted relevant Level 3 qualification.

You need to be a skilled mechanic with at least four years of full-time employment working on the types of vehicles you want to test, evidenced by a CV and references from your employer.

You should hold a current UK driving licence for the class of vehicle you wish to test.

You should have no unspent convictions for criminal offences in connection with MOT testing or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation.

You must be of ‘good repute’ - The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency will decide this to make sure you are suitable to be an MOT tester.

If you have answered yes to all of the above, you should complete an enrolment form and provide photographic identification and evidence of your Level 3 qualification.

 

Course Fees

The cost of the course is £750.00 which includes registration, exam fees and certification. Lunch and tea/coffee are provided.

Payment is required in full at least seven days prior to the course start date.

Tuition Fees

If you are aged 19+ and studying a Further Education Course at Bradford College, you may have to pay course fees. Course fees are dependent on the number of hours and which course is being taken. Actual costs can be obtained from our FE Registry team.
