Throughout the course, you will study a total of 22 units.

  • Algebra and functions
  • Coordinate geometry in the (x, y) plane
  • Sequences and series
  • Trigonometry
  • Exponentials and logarithms
  • Differentiation
  • Numerical methods
  • Vectors
  • Statistical sampling
  • Data presentation and interpretation
  • Probability
  • Statistical distributions
  • Statistical hypothesis testing
  • Quantities and units in mechanics
  • Kinematics
  • Forces and Newton’s laws
  • Moments.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at a minimum of Grade C/4 (including English) and Mathematics at a minimum of Grade B/6.
 

Expect Also To

  • Need to work in your own time in addition to attendance times
  • Use a graphics calculator which can be borrowed from the Mathematics Workshop
  • Work from past examination papers.

How You Will Be Assessed

Your progress will be assessed throughput the course using internal methods.

All formal assessments are at the end of the two year course.

There are three exams:

Paper 1:

Written exam: two hours (100 marks, 33⅓ % of A level).

Paper 2:

Written exam: two hours (100 marks, 33⅓ % of A level).

Paper 3:

Written exam: two hours (100 marks, 33⅓ % of A level).

All papers are a mix of question styles, from short, single-mark questions to multi-step problems.
