Did You Know?

Knowledge and qualifications in business and business processes can be useful in many different jobs including roles within the administrative and clerical job family, accountancy, banking and finance, and retail sales and customer services. It will also be useful if you are thinking about setting up your own business or becoming self-employed in the future.

Course Overview

This introductory qualification is designed for learners who may be ready to progress quickly to further study, the Certificate offers a basic introduction to the business sector and provides learners with the opportunity to develop generic, transferable and sector-specific skills related to the study of business in order for them to progress to further learning. 
Modules covered:
Core Units: Being Organised, Developing a Personal Progression Plan
Sector Units: Finding out about a business in your area, Branding a Product, Creating a Visual Display, Communicating with Customers
There will be a compulsory work placement - 30 hours experience of work.


Course Structure

The course is based on a Programme of Study, which consists of: the vocational qualification itself; maths and English, a tutorial programme and work experience. Learners will study two core units and three sector specific units over the duration of the course.

Entry Requirements

You should have keen interest in business and achieved a minimum 3 GCSE at grade 2 (E) or above. Entry level 3 qualifications with minimum Entry 3 at Maths and English would also be considered.


English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

How Will I Learn?

Our experienced staff will deliver a variety of lectures, seminars, workshops and presentations alongside independent student research. You will develop skills using up to date business industry research and practice as well as current academic concepts.
Visits and guest speakers are also used to help enrich your learning experience.

Skills You Will Develop

As well as the knowledge needed to understand the workings of business, you will also develop some key transferable skills such as;
Teamwork, Problem solving, Organisation, Numeracy, Communication, Business management, Analytics, Customer service, Literacy, and Financial planning.

How You Will Be Assessed

You will be assessed through a range of methods that include coursework, assignments and presentations.
