Course Overview

If you require GCSE Science qualifications you can join a Pre-Access course in Biology and/or Chemistry, Mathematics and/or English. You can study one subject or more as required.

Mathematics and English GCSEs are essential for progression onto most of the Access to Higher Education Diplomas.

Biology is necessary for progression onto Access to HE Nursing and Midwifery, Midwifery, Allied Health Professions and Radiography.

GCSE Biology and GCSE Chemistry is required for Access to HE Science which can lead to degrees in Clinical Sciences and Pharmacy.

Course Structure

Each GCSE you study will involve three hours of tuition in College.

Entry Requirements

You will undergo a screening test in Mathematics and/or English at the interview stage to determine your level.

English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at Grade A*-C in these subjects when you commence your course.

How Will I Learn?

You will learn through a variety of methods including lectures and group work.

You will be supported throughout your studies by a personal tutor.

Skills You Will Develop

In addition to the subject-specific content, you will develop skills in exam preparation and study skills.

You will develop the necessary skills to progress onto an Access to Higher Education Diploma.

Expect Also To

Spend around ten hours per week for assignment work in addition to your time in College.

How You Will Be Assessed

Assessment on this programme involves a range of progress tests, mock exams, science practicals and final exams in June.
