Course Overview

The Functional Skills maths qualification will equip you with the basic practical skills required in everyday life, education and the workplace. You will learn in a group and develop the transferable skills you will need to be successful. The course will run at Forster College - part of Bradford College.

Achieving this qualification will increase your confidence and practical skills, which will be valuable in the workplace or in any further learning.

Course Structure

The course will develop three key skills:

  • Number (including fractions, decimals and percentages)
  • Measures and metrics
  • Handling Data (including charts and graphs).

Each class lasts for three hours. After the initial assessment, on-going assessment will continue throughout the course. You will be required to take formal exams at the end of each course. This will be in the form of a timed exam, where you will be allowed the use of a calculator.

 

Studying this course will improve your maths skills can make you more confident and open the way to more job opportunities, training and further study.

 

Upon successful completion of the course, you may wish to progress onto higher level Maths or any other course of interest in Further Education or Higher Education.

 

 

Entry Requirements

Acceptance onto the course is by assessment. You will need to bring evidence of your highest English and/or maths qualification.
