Course Overview

This Level 2 qualification is for you if you need to achieve a Grade 4 in maths and/or English and allows you to develop the skills and knowledge in the construction industry prior to moving onto the Level 3 Technical Diploma.

Course Structure

The course comprises the following units:
  • Working safely in construction
  • Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Construction design and planning
  • Construction methods and techniques
  • Performing carpentry and joinery operations

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above.
 
If you do not hold a Grade A*-C/8/9-4 in Mathematics or English you will study these subjects as part of your course. If you have a Grade D/3 or Level 2 Functional Skill you will work towards achieving a Grade A*-C/8/9-4.
 
English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at Grade A*-C in these subjects when you commence your course.

How You Will Be Assessed

You will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning and to develop the skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace.

These skills include:
  • Team working
  • Working from a prescribed brief
  • Working to deadlines
  • Presenting information effectively and accurately
  • Completing administrative tasks and processes.
 
The course is assessed by a synoptic practical assessment and written workbooks for each unit.

Things You May Need

You will be required to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and hi-vis vest when working in the College workshops.
