Course Overview

This Level 1 course allows you to learn, develop and practise the basic skills and knowledge required to enter the construction industry.

It also allows you to improve your Mathematics and English and reach the grades that will allow you to progress onto a course at the next level.

Course Structure

This course is for you if you want to study Building Services such as plumbing or electrical installation and have not achieved GCSE Grade 3 or Functional Skills Level 2 in mathematics. 

It is a carousel course which includes both plumbing and electrical installation each studied for 18 weeks.

You will cover:

  • Introduction to Health and Safety in Construction
  • Introduction to the Construction Industry
  • Practical Skills for Each Trade
  • Job Knowledge for Each Trade.

 

Entry Requirements

You do not need to be employed.

You must be aged 16-18 and have GCSE Grades 2 or Functional Skills Entry Level 3 in Mathematics and English.

If you have a Grade D/3 or Level 2 Functional Skill you will work towards achieving a Grade A* to C/8-9 to 5-4.

You will also attend an information/taster session and you should show enthusiasm, commitment and a desire to succeed on the course.

English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at Grade A*-C in these subjects when you commence your course.

How You Will Be Assessed

The course is assessed by continuous practical assessments and knowledge-based assessments for each Unit.

Things You May Need

You will be required to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and hi-vis vest when working in the College workshops.

If you are aged 19+ and studying a Further Education Course at Bradford College, you may have to pay course fees. Course fees are dependent on the number of hours and which course is being taken. Actual costs can be obtained from our FE Registry team.
