Course Overview

Working in Beauty Therapy has become more challenging and exciting as the industry expands and new technologies are developed. People are now much more aware of their appearance, health and well-being, and so the demand for beauty therapists is increasing.

This course is ideal for you if your dream is to be part of the service industry. At Level 2 you will learn the range of skills to prepare you for employment in the Beauty Therapy industry and gain experience in a realistic salon environment. You will be introduced to all aspects of beauty therapy and will 'learn by doing'.  A specialist training salon is available. The course moves at a pace to allow you to develop as an individual and manage your own learning with assistance from our experienced and dedicated and highly qualified staff  who will give you full support as you develop your skills and abilities. You will develop and maintain a high level of professional behaviour and work ethos which is required when you go into employment in the industry.

A Learning Resource Centre is available.

Successful completion of this course offers progression to a Level 3 NVQ course in Beauty Therapy or employment in the beauty industry.

You will be required for 30 hours to do a work placement in a salon.  You will be released from your normal timetable for one week in the year 

Course Structure

The course units include Facials, Eye treatments, Waxing, Manicure, Pedicure, Threading and Tanning, Health and safety, Client care and communication and Anatomy and Physiology

The programme is flexible and you will have the opportunity to gain further qualifications and experiences through enrichment week and trade show events and visits.

You will be required to attend some twilight and evening sessions.

Entry Requirements

5/D in both Maths and English or a level 2 functional skills in both Maths and English

You should be hard-working, be of a cheerful disposition and treat everyone fairly and with respect.

Students not achieving the above will be offered the Level 1 Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector.

English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.

How Will I Learn?

You will:

  • Learn the beauty therapy skills that are required in the industry and perfect the skills you will need to work on clients in the College's commercial salons
  • Use handouts and notes in lectures
  • Discuss the subjects with tutors
  • Watch videos and lectures
  • Watch demonstrations and take part in practicals.
  • Online Learning: Moodle and COLA

In addition to your excellent learning experience at the College you can participate in extra curricula activities such as attending UK beauty exhibitions. The course also offers the fantastic opportunity to gain new skills and the opportunity to participate in competitions.  This is highly sought after for additional training by external companies, celebrity guests and staff offering the latest techniques and technologies.

  • You will be required to purchase a uniform and kit 
  • There will be additional costs for enrichment activities such as trade fairs, spa day etc… which will incur during your training 
  • You will have to provide some of your own models for practical assessments
