Course Overview

The Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design (one year) will introduce you to a variety of Art and Design disciplines such as Fine Art, Graphic Design, Fashion/Textile Design, Interior Design, 3D Design and Photography. The final major project at the end of the year allows you to specialise in one of the areas to enable progression to Higher Education study of your chosen discipline.

 

Course Structure

The Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design (one year) will introduce you to a variety of Art and Design disciplines such as Fine Art, Graphic Design, Fashion/Textile Design, Interior Design, 3D Design and Photography.

Through project briefs you will develop a critical and contextual awareness of different perspectives and approaches with art, design or related subject of study or work.  You will also develop how to research analyse and evaluate relevant information and ideas in order to develop creative solutions.

On successful completion of the course you will be in a position to progress to the Extended Diploma in Art and Design and we will advise on other qualification combinations if required.

You will also learn to critically review and evaluate the effectiveness of methods, actions and results of your work.

A variety of disciplines Art and design disciplines will be covered such as Fine Art, Graphic Design, Fashion & Textiles Design, Interior Design, 3D Design and Photography. A Major Project at the end of the year allows for specialisation within the disciplines to allow for more in depth knowledge and sophisticated understanding of a specific area.

Taking responsibility for research, planning and time management will enable you to become a more independent learner, a key requirement in Higher Education, and will support you in developing your portfolio on your chosen discipline for progression to degree level study and selection of work for the End of Year Show.

There will be opportunities to engage in external projects and competitions. Your experience will be enriched through visits to local galleries and exhibitions and may include visits to locations such as London, Liverpool and Newcastle.

 

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at a minimum of Grade C/4 including English language and Mathematics.

An art, design or related subject or equivalent Level 2 qualification in an appropriate subject.

A portfolio of art, design or related work.

You should be aged 16+.

English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at Grade A*-C in these subjects when you commence your course.
