Course Overview

This course gives you creative, exciting and practical opportunities to develop artistic skills through individual exploration of art, craft and design. It enables you to develop creativity, imagination, communication and practical skills, and to express ideas, feelings and meanings through art, craft and design.

As part of the course learners will develop their personal development skills including working with others, communication, study skills and employability skills. They will also study GCSE English and Maths and have a personal tutor who will support them throughout the course. 

The course is highly personalised and learning activities are designed to enable each student to work towards individualised targets that are meaningful and in keeping with their goals and aspirations Learners will be introduced to the many ways people working in 3D develop ideas for different purposes; for example, a fine art sculpture, a piece of jewellery or a mobile phone design. Learners will participate in activities involving the use of materials and methods commonly used in workshops and studios to develop ideas. 

Course Structure

  • Develop work-related skills relevant to the use of 2D and 3D to record a range of creative ideas.
  • Practise self- and time-management skills whilst developing their drawing skills, learning about 2D & 3D visual language and using appropriate media, methods and technologies.
  • Participate in creative activities such as cutting, carving, moulding, casting and constructing. 
  • The communication of ideas and intentions and problem solving will be integrated into creative drawing activities.
  • Health and safety requirements will need to be addressed for learners to be aware of safe working practice.

30 hours of relevant experience of work are offered as part of the course. 

Entry Requirements

Level 1/2 English and maths.

English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at Grade A*-C in these subjects when you commence your course.

How You Will Be Assessed

Evidence may be from work produced through practical exercises, samples, studies and experiments, along with written work where appropriate.
