Course overview

A CPD course for Teachers and other education professionals who wish to improve maths skills and knowledge for teaching.

Who is this course for?

Those who wish to improve both their:

  • own personal skills in mathematics and
  • skills in helping their learners with the mathematics in their courses

It can be taken as a stand-alone CPD activity for non-maths specialists who wish to develop their own mathematics (up to higher-level GCSE) and use this to support their learners in a range of contexts.

It is also designed as a bridging course to the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching Mathematics, the expected qualification for Mathematics (and Numeracy) specialist teachers in the FE and Skills sector.

What you'll study

There will be an emphasis on the development of both personal and teaching skills in mathematics (numeracy). Current approaches in mathematics teaching will be explored with a particular emphasis on Collaborative and Interactive learning and applying skills in the classroom.  Personal skills will be assessed at Level 3.

Timetable:

The course will employ a blended learning approach of college based sessions, a tutorial and distance learning.

The sessions will be online Thursday 14th January 2021 for 7 weeks

Content:

Sessions will explore approaches to mathematics (numeracy) and offer an opportunity to develop your personal skills. Example scheme of work.

  4. Linear equations
  5. Trigonometry
  6. Statistical Measures
  7. Assessment and Progression Routes

Entry requirements

Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) qualification in mathematics or numeracy.

Next steps

There are LLUK endorsed qualifications for both Numeracy Specialist and Vocational teachers who embed numeracy in their teaching. Bradford College offer the Level 5 Diploma in Numeracy Teaching for Numeracy specialist teachers.

Tuition fees

Course Fee : £210

Bradford College staff should apply to their line manager for permission and HR for CPD funds.  If you work for another organisation you should provide a letter stating their intention to pay on letter headed paper.  Your employer will then be invoiced.
