Course overview

This is initially a one-year course that leads to progression onto the year 2 Technical Diploma. Both years are needed in order to achieve ‘licence to practice’ as an Early Years Educator (EYE) or to achieve the 3 A levels equivalence needed for UCAS/University entry. There is a work placement 2 days per week, during Year 1 in a day nursery. For information about our student services, please click here.

What you'll study

Unit 1: Child Development Unit 2: Health & Well-being Unit 3:  Safe environments Unit 4: Child Health Unit 5: Play and learning Unit 6: Additional needs Unit 7: Observation, Assessment & Planning

You will learn via College lessons & workshops.

You will gain knowledge within the classroom to include theory, best practice and current early years curriculum content. Placement will give you the opportunity to put this into practice and develop your skills in a real workplace environment. You will also gain skills needed for the workplace such as communication, teamwork, professional values and confidence. You will be supported to develop your academic writing skills needed for further study.

Gain practical experience that will support job and university application success alongside achieving a graded A Level equivalent course. All tutors/assessors are industry professionals and are early years trained/experienced.

College polo shirt and sensible footwear (during your placement).

Controlled assessments.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at C/4 or above including  English language and Maths.

English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you start your course.
