Course overview

The course is designed to prepare you for a career in accounting. It is taught by Mark Dunkerley a fully qualified teacher with a Master’s in Business Administration and many years’ experience running his own accountancy practice.  Mark explains the technicalities of the subject in an engaging way drawing on his own extensive experience bringing the subject to life with lots of real life examples that help students better understand the subject and apply what they learn.

What you'll study

You will study financial accounting through studying book-keeping using both manual and computerized systems.  Costing and the skills needed to work effectively within the accounting workplace form further elements of the course.

You will be developing entry level skills for double entry bookkeeping , costing principles and communication and personal skills.

Assessment

You will be assessed by computer based assessment.

Entry requirements

It is required that you have GCSE’s, including English (at a minimum of grade 3) and Maths (at a minimum of grade 4). You will also need to successfully complete an AAT online skills check.

Work experience

Work experience is a compulsory component of the course.

Next steps

Upon completion of the course, you will be eligible for further study at level 3 within the business department, an apprenticeship in the business sector or employment.
