Course overview

This qualification is the only course which is full and relevant to prepare you to work with children between birth and seven years. Learners could also progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Educator or the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce.

This qualification is suitable if you are aged 16+ and have little or no experience in childcare.

All Units will be internally assessed using a range of methods including:

  • A portfolio of evidence
  • Written assignments or a tasks
  • Practical activities.
  • Communication skills
  • Organisational skills
  • Caring skills
  • Play and Development skills
  • Creative skills
  • Preparation for work.

Completion of this Level 2 course could lead to work as a full-time Level 2 practitioner – in early years settings or progression to a Level 3 Early Years Educator course, an apprenticeship or other level 3 qualifications relating to childcare or health and social care.

  • Take part in fundraising events, eg Children in Need
  • Take part in enrichment activities, eg drugs awareness, health and well-being.
  • Pens and pencils
  • Ring binder files
  • Notebooks.

To gain this qualification the learner will need to achieve the following:

Pass in all units: All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods, including direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task which we have set.
Competence in a real work environment

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs at a Grade 3 Including one in English Language and mathematics. English and/or Mathematics will be included in your timetable if you have not achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects when you commence your course.
