Course overview

This course is for you if you want to work in the domestic electrical installation industry e.g. wiring socket and light circuits in houses.

The course is for anyone with GCSEs at Grade 4  or above who wants to study electrical installation.

The City & Guilds 2365 qualification allows you to build on your previous experience, skills and knowledge to gain a qualification at an intermediate level.

What you'll study

You will study the following units:

  • Health and safety legislation
  • How to handle hazardous situations
  • Electrical safety requirements when working in the building services industry
  • Safety requirements for working with gases and heat producing equipment
  • Safety requirements for using access equipment in the building services industry
  • Safety requirements for working safely in excavations and confined spaces in the building services industry
  • You will study the following units:

    • Health and safety legislation
    • How to handle hazardous situations
    • Electrical safety requirements when working in the building services industry
    • Safety requirements for working with gases and heat producing equipment
    • Safety requirements for using access equipment in the building services industry
    • Safety requirements for working safely in excavations and confined spaces in the building services industry

Assessment

The course is assessed by practical assessments and knowledge-based exams for each Unit.

Electrical Installation (optional)
GCSE Mathematics
Grade 4/C
GCSE English
Grade 4/C

If you do not hold a Grade 4/C in Mathematics or English you will study these subjects as part of your course.

If you have a Grade D/3 or Level 2 Functional Skill in Mathematics or English you will work towards achieving a Grade A*-C/9-4.

Next steps

You will be required to wear safety boots with steel toe caps and hi-vis vest when working in the College workshops. Successful completion of a Level 2 course can lead onto a Level 3 course. Your course may include work experience or a work placement that could lead to the offer of a part-time or casual work, or you might work outside of your studies. As an electrician you have the potential to earn anywhere between £12K and £40 per year. Career opportunities are available through large contractors and smaller specialist employers in the public and private sectors. You could also train to become your own boss and become self-employed. Our students benefit from local site visits and trips to construction companies, such as our award-winning local partner Priestley Construction.
