  Overview

BTEC Level 1/ 2 First Certificate – Systems Support/Computer Science and Programming is a new course that has been developed to meet the demands of employers. Computer Science now plays an important and essential part in our day-to-day dealing with computers at home, at college, and at work.

While on the course, you will learn how to use a variety of software to present your work, learn about computer systems, networking, and website design and software development.

To gain the full BTEC Level 1/ 2 First Certificate – Systems Support/Computer Science and Programming, you need to study and achieve the required grade in the following 3 core and 3 specialist units:

Core units:

  • The Online World
  • Technology Systems
  • Digital Portfolio

Specialist units:

  • Mobile Apps Development
  • Computer Networks/Database Development
  • Software Development

Entry to this course requires GCSE English and Maths at grade 3 or D. As well as English and Maths, this course requires 1 other GCSE in preferably an ICT related subject or a Pass grade at level 1 OCR or BTEC.

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:

  • Two externally examined units. Online exams under exam conditions
  • One internally assessed unit, but externally moderated unit
  • Three internally assessed and moderated units

With the skills you learn from this course you will be able to apply for employment as an IT support trainee, or progress to an advance course like OCR Cambridge Technical.
