Course overview

The Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design (one year) will introduce you to a variety of Art and Design disciplines such as Fine Art, Graphic Design, Fashion/Textile Design, Interior Design, and 3D Design. The final major project at the end of the first year allows you to specialise in one of the areas and supports your progression to the second year of the course (Extended Diploma).

What you'll study

The Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design will introduce you to, and allow you to specialise in, disciplines such as Fine Art, Graphic Design, Photography Fashion/Textile Design, Interior Design, and 3D Design.

You will develop a critical and contextual awareness of different perspectives and approaches with art and design. Working with specialist staff in purpose-built studios and workshops will give you the opportunity to explore your ideas through practical application. You will also learn how to research, analyse and evaluate relevant information and ideas in order to develop creative outcomes A Major Project at the end of year 1 encourages further specialisation within the disciplines to allow for more in-depth knowledge and sophisticated understanding of a specific area.

On successful completion of the first year, you will be in a position to progress to the Extended Diploma in Art and Design and we will advise on other qualification combinations if required. You will be encouraged to specialise further in the second year, building on your skills and knowledge to finalise a portfolio and consider your progression routes, be it Higher Education, apprenticeships or the wider employment market.

Taking responsibility for research, planning and time management will enable you to become a more independent learner, a key requirement in Higher Education. There will be opportunities to engage in external projects and competitions. Your experience will be enriched through visits to galleries and exhibitions. This will support you in developing your portfolio in your chosen discipline, selecting work for an End of Year Show.
