Our accredited BA (Hons) Accountancy course will equip you with an in-depth understanding of all areas of accountancy and improve your employability within the field of accounting. Gain employment in the accountancy profession with a solid understanding of accounting, financial reporting requirements and the regulatory framework for accounting.

With this qualification you can enter a career across several industries, business and organisation within the public, private or the voluntary sector. The course will gain you professional experiential work placement and will enhance your employability skills in the second year of your study. The course has been designed with careful reference to the needs of the relevant professional accountancy bodies. We will help you to develop a wide range of transferable skills in accountancy and business disciplines. Guest speaker from our accredited partner will help and support your development towards professional accountancy bodies. You will graduate with the transferable skills and knowledge for the world of work and what lies behind any successful business.

This course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

A major part of the course involves developing relevant practical skills to prepare you for employment. For example, you’ll learn how to:

  • Manipulate, analyse and interpret financial and non-financial data
  • Prepare financial reports
  • Apply accounting principles and techniques to a range of business problems
  • Use industry-standard software

You’ll also learn how to appraise evidence, present and communicate clearly, work in a team and conduct independent research when required, such as when preparing a final-year project on a topic of your choice.

Modules will be delivered face-to-face and through the use of blended learning and appropriate digital learning platforms which allows for opportunities for individualisation and flexibility. Learning and teaching will be delivered through methods including lectures, seminars, workshops supported by e-learning resources (Moodle), MS Teams and independent study.

Each module covered will bring out its key distinctive feature in terms of theorical and practical skills needed to succeed as an accountant or financial professional. Key learning and teaching resources will be put on the module website on Moodle.

Entry to this course requires 80 UCAS Tariff points as well as 5 GCSEs graded at 4 or C, or above, including GCSE English and Maths.

Standard Applicants should normally have a minimum of 80 UCAS points (from A Levels, BTEC or the equivalent) or have successfully completed an accredited Access to HE courses and 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including English and Mathematics.

Non-standard applicants will be required to provide evidence of their ability to study at Higher Education (degree) level. Short courses and relevant work experience may be considered. Non-standard applicants may be interviewed and may be required to complete a piece of written work as part of their application.

Assessments will be mixture of coursework, assignments, presentation and exams.

There is an opportunity for a work placement in Year 2 (semester 2) for 15 weeks.

Successful completion of the course can lead to progression in the Accountancy industry. Careers directly related to the field include Accounting, Auditing, Stockbroker, as well as Support roles within the Accountancy field. This course can lead to progression to employment, apprenticeships or further study and gives you the opportunity to work towards professional qualifications such as ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA and CIPFA. Careers include: Accountant, Management Accountant or Self-employment.

  Fees

Full-time: £8,750 per year.
