Access to Higher Education – Business and Law
If you are aged 19+ but don’t have the right qualifications or grades for university, Access to Higher Education (HE) is perfect for you.
Our courses let you move on to degree-level study at Bradford College, other universities, or into employment. The one year Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma in Business and Law is suitable for students over the age of 19 who wish to progress to study business-related courses in Higher Education.
The development of theoretical skills in Business and Law is a key feature of this programme and you will be expected to undertake a research project to demonstrate application of these skills.
This pathway may allow progression to careers in Human Resource Management and Business Management. This course will also provide an excellent academic foundation to pursue a career in law such as solicitor, paralegal, legal executive and other legal careers.
You will need to spend around 15 hours a week for studies outside of your college timetable. You will need to allow this time for assignments, lesson preparation and revision activities. If you have a job, we recommend that you do not work more than 15 hours per week due to the intensity of the Access course. You should also expect to work with others and independently, meet deadlines and complete work to a high standard.
All students attend classes in Business, Law and study skills.
You will complete 15 ungraded units such as these:

- Introduction to Law
- Preparing to Progress
- Academic Writing Skills
- Developing Skills for Studying
You will complete 45 graded units such as these:
- Contract Law
- The Law of Tort
- Research Project
- English Legal System (Exam)
- Principles of Business Strategy
- Business and Organisation Culture
- Investigating Micro and Small Businesses
- Business and Organisation Structures
The course offers you 60 Credits at Level 3 and will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Entry to this course requires GCSE English and Maths at a grade 4 or C.
You are at least 19 years old on 1st September (18 year olds will be accepted by exception / interview).
Induction for this course will begin the week commencing the 19th of September, before beginning on the week commencing the 26th September.
Assessment on Access programmes involves a range of methods such as essays, presentations, reports and research investigations. You will have a combination of 15 ungraded and 45 graded credits, and 13 units in total.
For the graded units you will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.
As well as the skills gained in Business, you will also develop skills in independent research, critical thinking and evaluative skills, study skills, interview skills and interpersonal skills. You will develop the necessary skills to progress onto Higher Education. We will introduce you to the UCAS system and provide tutorial sessions for university applications.
Fees: Course fees are £3485, these fees can be self-funded or you can apply for an Adult Learner Loan to help to fund your studies.
