Catering and Hospitality

Our Ethos

Bradford College is a leading training provider for the Hospitality & Catering industry – one of the largest employment sectors in the UK.

We have extensive links with organisations from award-winning restaurants to five-star hotels. Partnerships give students rounded work experience, boost employability and confidence, and help meet the enormous demand for new skills in the field.

Courses are available for students just starting in catering or hospitality to those who want to enhance their job prospects with management qualifications. Our hands-on training focuses on student progression and fulfilling careers.

We have an excellent track record with our students. Alumni have gone on to successful careers at award-winning restaurants like The Box Tree in Ilkley. Recently, three students gained work experience at The Savoy in London, and all three were offered positions.

Using top-of-the-range equipment and under the guidance of expert lecturers, our students learn what quality customer service means. They experience working under pressure at busy events hosted by local organisations and VIP guests. Our students also collaborate with other departments like Travel & Tourism (who organise, plan, and decorate theme nights) to create and produce original menus.

If you’re looking for a fast-paced, in-demand career with superb prospects, we look forward to your application and welcoming you here soon.

Facilities

Catering and hospitality students at Bradford College benefit from training in modern, industry-standard facilities. Four extensive kitchens, including one for pastry preparation, are used to prepare delicious food for the College’s on-site Grove Restaurant and Café Bar.

This fully-functioning commercial restaurant allows students to practice preparing weekly menus and cooking a variety of dishes, through to working front-of-house and taking payments from customers in a real-world environment.

What’s on the menu

The restaurant is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday, offering a lunchtime menu created and served by Level 2 students. On Thursdays, Level 3 students manage a three-course a la carte evening service. Hours spent in The Grove form part of the course curriculum and assessment targets.

The fully licensed café bar serves a range of wines and alcoholic drinks, cakes, and refreshments like bubble teas. It also operates a professional barista machine for hot drinks and speciality coffees. Students can learn additional barista skills alongside formal qualifications to help give them the edge when looking for future work.

Meet the Team

Andy Bray, Level 3 Professional Cookery Programme Leader

As a former catering student at Bradford College himself, Andy knows the importance of vocational education. Andy spent years working in the catering industry as Head Chef at Hollins Hall Hotel and then London Marriott Hotel Regents Park.

Andy returned to Bradford College some 14 years ago when he became a training assessor and lecturer. He teaches the Level 3 Professional Cookery students who deliver the weekly à la carte menu in the College restaurant.

Partnerships

The Chefs’ Forum Academy

Bradford College is one of only a handful of Colleges in the North working in partnership with The Chefs’ Forum. This partnership enriches your experience with a programme of masterclasses and taster days.

Head chefs and celebrity names from award-winning UK restaurants will give demonstrations on topics as diverse as foraging menus to talks on working as a top chocolatier!

The Chefs’ Forum gives students valuable industry experience and a taste of real-life expectations, from timekeeping to the latest trends in recipes and dishes. External chefs can demonstrate techniques and use materials which might not normally be possible in-house.

The exciting new initiative adds extra depth to the training on offer at Bradford College. In return, professionals from leading restaurants get access to the next generation of catering and hospitality talent.

Chefs’ Forum

MyLahore Academy

Starting in September 2023, the College is now part of an exciting partnership with Bradford-born restaurant, MyLahore.

This new relationship sees chefs from MyLahore work with Bradford College catering students, as part of a ‘Chef Academy’ specialising in British Asian cuisine.

You will learn all about the art of fusion cooking and gain a Level 2 qualification in the process.

You will also benefit from:

  • Branded chef whites and aprons for all Academy students
  • Work placement opportunities for 16-18-year-old students across other curriculum areas, from business to travel and tourism
