Since March 2012, Matchfit has seen over 2000 students from 30 education providers compete in over 200 competitions throughout the Yorkshire and Humberside region.
Returning for its third year of operation, Matchfit is a series of vocational skills competitions open to students aged 16 and over who are studying a vocational subject at levels 1-3. Competitions are available in a variety of subject areas from Construction to Catering, Media to Music and Business to Beauty. Education providers from across the region will host the competitions and a range of fantastic prizes are awarded to competition medallists including retail vouchers and specialist equipment. Additional prizes are also awarded to competition winners including guitar amps for music students and tablets for business students.
The programme aims to motivate and continuously improve the skills of students and employees; bringing their talents to life. Through exciting competitions and hands-on activities, Matchfit aims to inspire and embed a skills competition ethos within education and employment and support the region in succeeding in professional skills competitions such as WorldSkillsUK.
The 2014/15 programme will feature 10 competition categories within which there are a number of competitions. Matchfit categories include:

The Matchfit project is run by a team based at Bradford College and is funded by the Skills Funding Agency and the European Social Fund via the Skills Enhancement Fund operated by Calderdale College.
Matchfit is now established as the region’s leading programme of vocational skills competitions. Skills competitions are fantastic opportunities for students, tutors and education providers to pit themselves against their counterparts throughout the region. With employers and industry specialists involved in sponsorship and judging, Matchfit presents development opportunities for all involved. The ultimate goal here is to give young people the platform to showcase their potential, developing the specialist and soft skills employers are looking for along the way, leading to fantastic career prospects.
