Vice Principal, Curriculum and Development
Dawn Leak joined Bradford College as Vice Principal in December 2016. She is a Dual Professional who has operated in a number of Educational and Private Sector Organisations over the last 30 years. Dawn gained extensive vocational experience whilst studying at college and she went on to graduate from Huddersfield University in 2011.
Before pursuing an educational career, Dawn worked for a local authority and studied as a Civil Engineer at Wakefield Building College, before moving on to complete her Registered General Nursing at Wakefield and Pontefract School of Nursing. Dawn then spent the next 14 years working at Yorkshire Post Newspapers, where she gained her business development expertise working within Classified Advertising. She moved roles to manage the Yorkshire Post Newspapers College, where she first started her journey working with apprenticeships.
Since 2001 Dawn has held a number of Business Development- and Employer-facing roles, providing strategic leadership in raising the employer responsiveness agenda. Dawn has very broad experience within further education, having taught and worked at a number of West Yorkshire Colleges, Learn Direct, Business Link and a number of Independent Training Providers. Her passion and focus has always been to grow apprenticeships, traineeships and commercial income. In her last two roles at Kirklees College and Blackpool and the Fylde College, Dawn, as part of the senior team, led the growth agenda of the apprenticeship reforms. As a qualified project manager Dawn has expanded her experience to support teams to enhance and grow project-based activity.
Dawn has significant experience in business development and driving growth, along with delivering a responsive employer engagement strategy. She is responsible for employer-facing activity, which includes Apprenticeships, Traineeships, Marketing, Student Recruitment, Communications and PR, along with Director responsibility for four of the college’s subsidiaries companies to the value of £10m.
Dawn has a strategic role at Bradford College, ensuring that the college meets the needs of industry and regional growth plans, develops its stakeholder engagement in the region and the Bradford community and plays its part in helping to narrow the skills gap and support economic growth.
