Open door tutor access, small class sizes and great learner support are key parts of our student experience. But so too are the following features which are designed to give you the edge in making the transition into employment:
Work experience is integral to most of our courses and is a validated part of a growing number of our vocational and professional degree programmes. We offer students a wide variety of work based / work related learning opportunities and are also able to offer our graduates access to a wide range of high quality internships through Graduates Yorkshire.
Vocational relevance is at the heart of our curriculum. Nearly all of our courses are developed in conjunction with employers and we meet the accreditation procedures required by the wide range of professional bodies and Sector Skills Councils that we work with. This ensures that the skills and qualifications you achieve are relevant to the world of work.
A recent Integrated Quality and Enhancement Review of our HE provision by the QAA praised our “efforts to establish effective working relationships with employers to inform the curriculum and provide work-related learning experiences for students.”
The development of key employability skills including working with others and presentation skills is included as standard within our HE programmes. Live projects, employer guest lecturers and mentoring are features of a number of our courses and professional qualifications are an integral part of many of our programmes.
Careers advice is available throughout your course from an experienced team of advisers, and we can assist you with CV writing and provide guidance on the interview process.
Through our relationship with local businesses, we can offer students access to a number of employment opportunities.
In collaboration with Bradford Kickstart, we have developed the Bradford Enterprise Academy which delivers exciting enterprise programmes across the curriculum.
The Bradford Enterprise Academy aims to stimulate interest in enterprise, enhance students’ entrepreneurial skills and increase opportunities for start-up businesses and students going into self employment.
You will have access to a range of enterprise services including training and advice from our business counsellor, access to incubation units, seminars, workshops, networking opportunities and competitions.
Personal development planning is an integral part of all our courses. We will work with you to identify the skills you need to achieve your career aspiration and develop a tailored plan to help you acquire these skills. E-portfolios are a key element of assessment and provide a record of achievements.
Through the Students’ Union, there is a range of volunteering opportunities open to students including campaign and events organisation on campus and in the local community. In addition, student representation is active with a network of over 450 course representatives and students participating in College meetings including that of the Corporation, Equality and Diversity, Central Services and Academic Board.
