Financial Support for Higher Education Students

Depending upon the higher education course you want to join, there may be financial help available.

Undergraduates and PGCE Students

If you're joining either a Foundation Degree, Degree, HNC or HND course, you'll be taking an undergraduate course.  This may make you eligible for statutory support*.  Students starting their course after August 2009 will need to apply to Student Finance England.  Students starting their course before this date will need to apply to Student Finance Direct, usually through their local authority.

The support available differs, depending on whether you're a full-time or a part-time student.  Students joining a PGCE course are eligible to apply to the same funding as undergraduate students.*

Postgraduates

Most Postgraduate study must be funded by you or a sponsor (quite often an employer).  Some of the exceptions to this are PGCE and PCET students.  Charities and Trusts may also offer financial support to students.

Postgraduate students, both full-time and part-time can apply to the Access to Learning Fund, but must be able to show that they have made every effort to obtain funding for tuition fees and living expenses.
